SMO or Social Media Optimization

I'm sure you've heard of social media sites like Facebook, Digg, Twitter, and YouTube. These kinds of networking sites allow you to build a community of people who can help spread the word about you and your website. Social media sites are a way for others to share your content. YouTube is a video share site or video social media site designed to do the same with you video content. You can use social media websites to generate traffic and buzz, and to build links to your website. SMO or social media optimization is just an extension of your SEO efforts. You can use social media to generate links that can help your website rank well organically in search engines.
There are a number of social media sites. I've listed only some of those sites here.
